Crowbar resistors
Crowbar Resistors are designed for pulse loads and are used in circuits that prevent an over voltage or any other inappropriate situation. Typically these resistors are connected directly to the output (or input) nodes making a high current situation resulting in a fuse to blow and in that way preventing a hazardous situation. Depending on the power crowbar resistors are ceramic wirewound resistors or aluminum housed ALPHA resistors. At Danotherm we assist our customers in finding the correct type and size by using thermal simulation.
