Rheostats from Danotherm Electric are variable resistors used for controlling current in electrical circuits. They are used in moderate power circuits for power control through current control.
Rheostats are built on a round ceramic body where the active resistor wire is wound on. The resistor wire is covered and protected by a layer of vitreous enamel. The variable contact is made of silver or copper-graphite. The shaft is 6mmø (3mmø for size 22-23)
Power ratings for Danotherm Rheostats range from 12 to 200 W. De-rating starts at ambient 25°C up to 90°C, linear from 100% to 75% of nominal power. They can sustain up to seven times the nominal power rating over a 5-second time duration. The resistors cool via natural convection.
Custom designs with tappings, off-positions with/without extra lugs, extended shafts, locking devices, and tandem/triplex versions are for some sizes available on request.
Connection options include solder, screw, and AMP.
We provide Rheostats as replacement parts in existing designs and do not recommend their use for new designs.
