- Brake resistor for EV
Danotherm WHBSA resistors are specifically designed for use as braking resistors in hybrid / electric buses and trucks. The service life of the resistors can be up to 20 years.
Danotherm WHBSA resistors are liquid-cooled, high-power brake resistors in compact housings that deliver high power density. The resistors are offered in 16 different mechanical sizes and can satisfy a wide range of requirements. OEM versions of WHBSA resistors are available.
WHBSA series resistors feature a fully-welded steel tank. The resistors have an IP65 protection rated connection box. The cooling fluid is freshwater or a water/glycol mixture. AISI 304 stainless steel is used for the tank and the connection box. AISI 321 stainless steel is used for the resistor elements.
Power ratings for WHBSA resistors are defined as braking power and heating power.
Braking power refers to the power that the resistor can endure during a 12-minute downhill test. It is assumed that no more than one 12-minute downhill load cycle occurs per day. The braking power ratings for WHBSA resistors range from 19 to 253 kW.
The resistors can be used to acclimate the vehicle, e.g., pre-heating the driver and passenger compartments when the vehicles are still at the bus garage, without drawing any energy from the battery. The heating power ratings for WHBSA resistors range from 9 to 119 kW.
The peak working voltage for WHBSA resistors is 1000 VAC. A PT1000 temperature sensor is available as a standard feature. Drain plug, air vent, cable glands, and holes are available options.
