Danotherm traction brake resistors provide the perfect solution for railway braking applications. As mechanical brakes tend to wear out quickly and are expensive to maintain, electrical brake resistors are preferred. It is possible to install resistors on top or under the train or inside a dedicated compartment. Taction brake resistors cool through natural convection or forced air cooling.
The resistor units are built from grid blocks that are composed of metal sheets. The metal sheets (grid plates) are laser-cut or punched into the shape required to the needed ohm value. The material of the grid plates is steel or alloy. Depending on the customer requirements different materials for the grid plates is selected.
Traction brake resistors from Danotherm come built according to customer specifications, including voltage, power, mechanical forces, dimensions, ambient conditions, shock and vibration, and national and international directives.
Power ratings range from 20 to 2400 kW, AC working voltages range from 750 V up to several kV, and DC working voltages range from 600 V to 3 kV.
Danotherm traction brake resistors comply with multiple railway standards, including IEC 60322:2001, IEC 61373:2010, ANSI/IEC 60529-2004, UNE-EN 50124-1:2001 and UNE-EN 50125-1:2001. An acceptance tests, if required, can be performed at an external test facility, and can be witnessed by an accredited third-party certification institute.
